Kia's flagship family SUV, the Sorento, has grown into a highly desirable car of unquestionable quality over the years. With strong styling and a plentiful list of attractive features, the new Kia Sorento is sure to be the most popular iteration yet.
The new Kia Sorento is the largest model that the South Korean manufacturer supplies to the UK. What's more, this newest version is even bigger than previous iterations, with a total length of 95mm and a wheelbase that measures 80mm. A slightly decreased height stops the Sorento from looking too big from the outside however, as 15mm have been shaved from the roofline. Elsewhere, LED daytime running lights and 17-inch alloy wheels come as standard, although these can be swapped for 18 or 19-inch wheels at higher trim specifications.
The new Kia Sorento gives drivers an excellent driving position, thanks to supportive and well-bolstered seats which come with a range of adjustability features. Selecting the KX-3 version and above will also give you lumbar support as well as eight-way electric seat adjustment, whilst the top-of-the-range KX-4 trim comes with ten-way electric adjustment and a seat position memory function. The Sorento's interior is generally well-constructed, with well-damped switches and solid materials used throughout to convey a sense of hard-wearing longevity and high-standard build-quality.
There's only one engine choice available when buying the new Kia Sorento, although you can choose whether to marry it to a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic. The engine in question is a 2.2-litre CRDi diesel that is capable of producing fuel economy of 49.6mpg and emitting just 149g/km of CO2. The 2.2-litre diesel can draw upon 197bhp to reach a top speed of 124mph, and can travel from 0-60mph in nine seconds, a very respectable time for a car of the Sorento's size.
The new Kia Sorento holds a five-star crash-safety rating from the testing team at Euro NCAP, meaning that it is one of the safest cars you can buy. So as you would expect, the Sorento comes with a generous array of safety equipment, including six airbags, trailer stability control, hill-start assist control, a road-sign detection camera, adaptive cruise control and a lane departure warning system, amongst other features.
