The handsome Suzuki Ignis provides good levels of passenger space and commendable fuel economy. This sporty supermini comes in SZ3, SZ-T and SZ5 trim levels, and is also available in mild hybrid and four-wheel drive iterations. The car is also an award winner, claiming the WhatCar award for true MPG, proving this car is cheap to run as well as fun to drive.
The well-built and compact Ignis is adorned with a number of eye-catching fixtures. These include body-coloured door mirrors and a smart black radiator grille. Black is also used effectively on the Ignis’ A and B pillars, which helps provide a ‘floating’ window look. The car is fitted with 15-inch steel wheels as standard, while SZ-T and SZ5 grades feature 16-inch alloys. The same trims also come with roof rails, as well as a chunkier look that is provided by the addition of side mouldings and wheel arch extensions.
Make a statement with one of six fabulous paint finishes, including Flame Orange, Boost Blue, Pure White and Super Black. Alternatively, a dual-tone scheme utilises a pair of contrasting hues to lend the car a distinctive visual identity.
SZ3 grades make room for five inside, while all other iterations feature a four-seat layout – either of which provides a spacious environment. Furthermore, rear-row travellers can enjoy individually sliding positions. The driver, meanwhile, benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering wheel (which is leather-wrapped with SZ5 trims). Other standard features include air conditioning and electric front windows (plus rear windows with SZ5 grades). The Ignis possesses a 235-litre boot space which can quickly be increased to 1,097 litres whenever the need to accommodate extra cargo arises.
SZ3 and SZ-T trims are fitted with an 89bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine as standard. Paired with five-speed manual transmission, this delivers up to 61.4mpg and a 104g/km CO 2 emission figure. An SHVS power-regeneration iteration of the same engine, available with SZ5 grades, returns as much as 65.7mpg and emissions as low as 97g/km. The same trim is also available with four-wheel drive.
Enjoy a range of audio content with the car’s four-speaker sound system, which includes an MP3-compatible CD player, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB input. SZ-T trims additionally feature a navigation system.
The Ignis includes several essential driver aids, such as Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Programme, as well as passive safety features, like multiple airbags, ISOFIX child-seat fixtures and child-proof locks.
