Suzuki Vitara Kuro

The Kuro is a limited edition variant of the Vitara, a critically admired SUV from Suzuki. With its bespoke design, spacious interior and range of safety features, this fun-to-drive vehicle is ideal for style-conscious families.

‘Kuro’ is Japanese for black, the darkest of all colours, which infuses this particular Vitara model with its opaque good looks. The vehicle’s front grille, body mouldings and side trims are all black-finished. The same tone also enhances the Kuro’s eye-catching 17-inch satin alloy wheels, and its smart roof-integrated rear spoiler. Something else that sets this particular incarnation of the Vitara apart from others in the series is the Kuro badge.

The dark-hued theme also permeates the vehicle’s cabin, from its seats and side panels to its chic black dashboard. It’s a comfortable environment too, providing plenty of legroom for up to five travellers. Standard features include four power-operated windows and automatic air conditioning, helping to make the Kuro’s cabin even more enjoyable to journey in.

A number of useful cubby spaces are featured throughout, including cup- and bottle-holders and seatback pockets, and a hidden false floor located in the vehicle’s boot – ideal for storing valuables. This 375-litre luggage space can be extended to as much as 710 litres with rear seats folded.

The Vitara Kuro is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine, which is hooked up to a five-speed manual gearbox. This 118bhp unit produces 156Nm of torque and a nippy 0-60mph in 11.7 seconds. It also returns up to 53.3mpg and a 123g/km CO 2 emission figure.

Technology and safety

The Kuro’s four-speaker sound system includes DAB digital radio and Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and can be safely and easily operated using the vehicle’s steering wheel-mounted controls.

The Vitara comes with a maximum five-star rating from crash-test specialists, Euro NCAP; it features an extensive range of driver aids and passive safety features. These include Hill-hold Control and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The former prevents the vehicle from rolling uncontrollably when the engine is started on an incline. The latter, meanwhile, constantly analyses each tyre and alerts the driver if there is any significant air pressure reduction.
