The already impressive Kia Optima receives a plug-in hybrid engine to create the Kia Optima Hybrid, a large estate car that provides comfort, style, space and excellent economy all at the same time, demonstrating Kia's dedication to forward-facing manufacturing.
The Optima Hybrid may pair an electric motor with its engine, but that's far from the only thing that makes it stand out from other executive estate cars, or the other models in the Optima range. For a start, the Optima Hybrid features an exclusive set of alloy wheels and an increased focus on aerodynamics, thanks to several intakes. Kia has also given the Optima Hybrid a series of intelligent lighting solutions, including self-adjusting High Beam assist, extra-bright LED headlamps and Dynamic Bending Light, which aids visibility when cornering in the darkness.
The Kia Optima Hybrid is a car that has been designed to stand out from the crowd and the South Korean manufacturer has made sure that the interior is as functional and luxurious as possible. The seats are upholstered in a beautiful, firm leather, with a cooling system available as an optional extra, whilst leather-like accents adorn the armrest and doors. A heated steering wheel is also available and, for those who need extra space, split-folding rear seats are available to provide more cargo room and storage options.
The big talking point with the new Kia Optima Hybrid is obviously the plug-in electric motor. This will power the Kia Optima Hybrid for up to 33 miles using electricity alone, emitting just 37g/km of CO2 as it does so. Of course, this being a hybrid, the Kia Optima Hybrid also comes with a standard engine; a 2.0-litre unit that can harness 154bhp.
The standard Optima has received a five-star crash safety rating from the experts at Euro NCAP, a score which also applies to the new Kia Optima Hybrid. That rating means that the Optima Hybrid is one of the safest cars on the road, and will protect the driver and passenger thanks to a full range of airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mountings, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution and other safety features.
