The new Kia Carens is a versatile and durable seven-seater MPV that is sure to appeal to plenty of drivers, thanks to a choice of engines and plenty of equipment across four trim specifications.
From the very first glance, the new Kia Carens is a car that clearly looks capable of getting the job done, no matter how many of the seven seats are filled at the time. The design ethos of the Carens is that of a classic MPV, with a broad side profile and a tall, wide windscreen offering maximum visibility and a commanding driving position. The entry level '1' trim and the '2' trim both come on 16-inch alloy wheels, although the '3' trim and above replace these with 17-inch wheels. The top-of-the-range '4' spec also comes with a panoramic roof for extra light and spaciousness.
The interior of the new Kia Carens is equally as well designed, as you would expect from a manufacturer that is becoming known for its quality. The buttons and switchgear are well-damped and the materials used throughout ensure that the Carens has been built to last. The Carens comes with three full-size middle-row seats, and each can be reclined and adjusted independently of each other. There's plenty of space in each of the three rows, whilst the five rear seats can all be stowed away to enlarge the already generous boot space.
The new Kia Carens MPV comes with a selection of three engines for the discerning buyer to choose between. The first is a 1.6-litre petrol that comes backed by 113bhp, whilst the second and third are 114bhp and 134bhp versions of a 1.7-litre diesel. The 1.6-litre unit will give you a fuel economy of 45.6mpg, whilst the 1.7-litre diesels can return up to 67.2mpg depending on which version you choose. All three are available with a six-speed manual gearbox, whilst a seven-speed automatic gearbox can be paired with the more powerful diesel unit.
Previous iterations of the Kia Carens have received a full five-star crash-safety rating from the experts at Euro NCAP, a score that can be transferred to the latest model. It's not a surprise that the new Kia Carens is so safe, as it features six airbags, including side and curtain airbags that work to protect passengers in each row, as well as technology such as ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, and vehicle stability management as standard, alongside other safety features.
